Old Mondoro Camp

Safari adventures you thought were only possible in your wildest dreams are found here at Chiawa's sister camp, Old Mondoro Camp. Situated in a grove of acacia and winter thorn trees, strung out along the banks of the Zambezi River and overlooking a maze of hippo-inhabited channels, this camp is uncomplicated and unpretentious. About an hour downstream from Chiawa, Old Mondoro's location is characterized by vast flood plains and open woodland making it ideal for walking and game viewing.
In such experienced hands, this is a place where the wildlife comes first. The animals that live here occupy Old Mondoro Camp almost as much as the guests do, providing out-of-this-world game sightings.

Here you'll discover the big cats, including some of the most prolific leopard sightings to be had in Africa. While the magic of the water provides unforgettable encounters with island-hopping buffalo, elephant, and hippopotami. Activities from Old Mondoro include game drives, night drives, boat cruises, canoe safaris, and walking safaris. In fact, the camp's unique location combined with top-notch guides who've passed the Lower Zambezi National Park’s strict system of accreditation, makes it one of the best camps in Africa for guided walking safaris.
With only five reed and thatch chalets, Old Mondoro has an exclusive, intimate atmosphere. Your chalet comes with a comfortable king-sized bed or two large twins,

dressed in crisp Egyptian cotton linens. It also includes a covered deck with a luxurious day bed and two armchairs set by a coffee table. The best part? A large outdoor stone splash tub and shower open to stunning views of the stars and landscape... Nothing like cooling off with a bath while watching elephants play in the lagoon. In the centre of camp you'll find the lounge and dining room under thatch, complete with lovely views of the twinkling channels and small islands of the Zambezi. Just outside the main area is a campfire, a perfect spot to enjoy a morning cup of coffee while watching the sunrise.
