Island Bush Camp

This remote bush camp is nestled under the cool shade of mature mahogany trees, conveniently located on the banks of the pristine Luangwa River. Offering guests looking a more adventurous and rustic safari experience, Island Bush Camp is Kafunta River Lodge's rugged little sister. ---- From Kafunta to Island Bush Camp the three-hour drive will take you through woodlands and riverine landscapes while passing through a couple of authentic villages. Walking takes centre stage at Island Bush Camp and with such a varied terrain to explore there is something new around every corner.

With an experienced guide and an armed scout, you’ll embark on a slow-paced promenade looking for different wildlife species and taking the time to hear about nature’s wonders too often overlooked on game drives. There's also the option to go on a game drive and regardless of how you take in the surroundings, the birding is stellar. ----Each May, the camp is re-constructed piece by piece and offers a real 'close to nature' experience. Island Bush Camp has five double chalets, built on platforms from local materials and raised up on stilts for incredible views of the busy river.

The chalets have incredible open-air en-suite bathrooms with cold running water, flush toilet, and stylish bucket showers with piping hot water provided once a day. The main area at Island Bush Camp is a large, thatched, and semi-open building facing towards the river. As well as a large dining table and a lounge area with sofas and armchairs, it houses a well-stocked bar. Meals at Island Bush Camp are prepared over an open fire or on a wood-burning stove. This is where the magical art of camp cooking takes place, turning a variety of ingredients into delicious plates of food.
