Flatdogs Camp

An unforgettable safari experience in one of the most untouched National Parks in the whole of Southern Africa awaits you at Flatdogs Camp.
Flatdogs Camp sits just outside of the South Luangwa National Park on the banks of the mighty Luangwa River. The Luangwa Valley is home to an astonishing diversity of life, including around 100 species of mammals, more than 400 bird species and over 2000 types of plants. Activities from camp include expert guided game drives (day and night), and walking safaris that get you up close and personal with South Luangwa's unspoilt natural splendour. The morning drive leaves the camp around six a.m. when the air is not too hot and animals are gathering their morning breakfast. The South Luangwa is one of the few parks in Africa to allow night drives, and the guides’ knowledge of animal behaviour really pays off after dark. Walking safaris from the camp, and South Luangwa in general, are renowned to be the best in all of Africa.

These are a fascinating, more detailed view of the park ecology and of the wildlife. It's also an exciting opportunity to track game on foot either using spoor or with a little help from birds and animals who make haste in the presence of predators.

There's a range of accommodation to choose from in Flatdogs Camp, including chalet rooms, luxury safari tents and even a Jackalberry tree-house. Their six luxurious Chalet rooms are found in three separate buildings: each chalet building has a downstairs double room with en-suite bathroom and an upstairs twin/triple room with their own bathroom, located downstairs from the bedroom. A further family chalet has a twin and a double bedroom downstairs, both en-suite, and a loft room for an additional two people upstairs. On the banks of the Luangwa with the best views in camp, are six of Flatdog's luxury en-suite safari tents. Their walled bathrooms under thatch are located through a door at the back.

The seventh tent is their honeymoon tent, which looks out onto a lovely waterhole where elephant come to mud-bathe and giraffe, bushbuck and puku enjoy a drink. "Crocodile Nest" is Flatdog's large tented “house” with views onto the Luangwa River which offers exclusive safari accommodation with private guide and vehicle for a great value. The two-roomed Jackalberry Treehouse is a fantastic option for those wanting a more exclusive stay at Flatdogs. The tree-house is built around three live African ebony (or jackalberry) trees, boasting unspoilt views across the lagoon with regular resident wildlife. As well as a double and a twin room, each with en-suite washroom, there's a lounge and dining area with a minibar fridge. The main area is set back from the bank of the Luangwa River, which is home to many crocodiles, hippo and sometimes elephant crossing. Flatdogs camp is well known for its mouth-watering cuisine, made from locally-grown and raised ingredients. And the best part is that here there are no set meal times, order what you want when you want it. Enjoy your meal inside under the thatch, in the courtyard or in the garden area looking out towards the river.
